Director, Writer, Producer, Glassrock Entertainment—Breakout Star Award Honoree

Filmmaker Alton Glass is an award-winning writer, producer and director recognized for his compelling narrative style.   Riveted by new media, Glass is also the co-founder of Glassrock Entertainment, a cutting-edge, creative studio focused on the use of technology for experiential entertainment and immersive storytelling, including virtual and augmented reality. His most recent work, “A LITTLE LOVE,” completed in June 2017, debuted as an innovative VR Theatrical Screening Experience at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF).

An entrepreneur by nature, the Detroit native’s introduction to the entertainment industry was by way of his janitorial business, cleaning sets at DreamWorks. Fueled by his desire to be a director, he used that experience to secure a job as a camera intern and seized an opportunity to shadow veteran filmmaker Michael Schultz. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled in the Hollywood CPR Film School and joined the Cinematographers Guild.

In 2014, Glass made history at the 18th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) by winning the most awards in the 18-year history of the Grand Jury Awards for his film “CRU,” including Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Narrative Feature Film, Audience Award and Best Actor. “CRU” was immediately acquired by NETFLIX and BET NETWORKS. His distinctive storytelling has also been recognized with the HBO Award for Best Narrative Feature; Bronze Lens Film Festival’s Best Feature, Best of Festival and Audience Award, and the Chicago International Film Festival’s Audience Award Nomination in 2015, among others.

“CRU’s” festival success garnered the attention of TVONE Networks, for whom he produced and directed a “SECOND CHANCE CHRISTMAS.” The holiday film was a critical and ratings success, leading to an ongoing collaboration to produce and direct more TVONE films, most recently “THE SECRET SHE KEPT.”   Additional film credits include,

“THE CONFIDANT” featuring Boris Kodjoe and Billy Zane, the award-winning gritty drama THE MANSFIELD 12” and “THE CANDY SHOP.”

Glass continues to explore experiential entertainment and perfect his craft, driven by a passion for film and technology.  His latest project “A LITTLE LOVE,” a live action and animated virtual reality film, was developed after a three-year immersion and exploration of the platform and its applications for inventive storytelling and audience engagement.

The film, powered by Samsung Gear VR, is about a little girl who makes a special wish on the 8th birthday that takes her and her busy, successful mom on an unforgettable and eye-opening journey.  The film’s premiere screening, held at the ABFF in Miami, was lauded by both audiences and critics.  The innovative film earned him a coveted spot at Facebook’s invitation only Oculus Launch Pad program.
