Apple announced on Monday that it’s App Store reached 40 billion app downloads, and that number doesn’t include re-downloads or updates. What makes the feat even more noteworthy is the fact that half of those downloads took place in 2012 alone.
“It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in the news release. “Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.”
Apple opened the App Store in July of 2008. It took one year for the store to hit 1 billion downloads.
