Beyond Demo Day: An Update on TechStars Alumni

Tom Chikoore of Filtrbox

Tom Chikoore graduated from the inaugural class of TechStars, participating in the Boulder Summer 2007 program. He co-founded Filtrbox, which provided social media monitoring for brands, enabling them to identify and engage in real-time conversations on social media platforms. Filtrbox raised $1.9 million in funding before being acquired by Jive Software in 2010. Chikoore, a graduate of Prairie View A&M University and University of Colorado at Denver, worked for more than a decade as a software architect and engineer prior to the TechStars program. He just launched another startup, Motion Nexus, and serves as director of TechStars’ RisingStars program.

“It is said that it is tougher to get into TechStars than into an Ivy League school,” Chikoore says. “However, once you get in, the quality of mentorship delivers a life-changing experience for any tech startup entrepreneur. I would encourage any serious technology startup to give it a shot.”
