In April 2009, Obama named <strong>Aneesh Chopra</strong> as the first U.S. chief technology officer. As the face of the president’s tech policy, Chopra’s job is to ensure the newest technologies and latest advances are employed to make the federal government work better for the American people.

- <strong>Digital Donations</strong><br><br> During the 2008 presidential race, Obama was able to tap into the power of social good, raising a record-setting $55 million—$45 million of which was raised online—in less than 30 days. And, last month, President Obama raised $181 million with a large number of donations coming from the digital world. Republican presidential nominee <strong>Mitt Romney</strong> raked in $170 million for the month.

- <strong>Access to President Obama? There’s An App For That</strong><br><br> Obama is never further away than the distance between your hand and cell phone (translation: he’s at your fingertips). He is the first president to have his own mobile app <a href="http://www.barackobama.com/app?source=TheNewObamaForAmericaApp-20120731-misc-HQB&icn=20120731-TheNewObamaForAmericaApp-misc-HQB" target="_blank">Obama for America</a>. The app is a political organizing tool supporters can use to sign up for campaign events, donate money and learn more about voting in their respective districts.

- <strong>‘Let’s Stay Together’ Rings True</strong><br><br> The <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8Qu8nThJ5w&feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">commander in chief’s soulful rendition</a> of <strong>Al Green</strong>’s "Let’s Stay Together" during a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y. is now a ringtone available on the president’s official website. Not even a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTkUeb6zQFA" target="_blank">saxophone-playing <strong>Bill Clinton</strong></a> can rival that.

- <strong>America Online</strong><br><br> President Obama wants all Americans to be connected. The Obama administration understands the importance digital technology plays in further advancing America into the 21st century. Although bringing broadband to “every community” in the country is still very much a work in progress, strides have been made. Through his Wireless Innovation and Infrastructure Initiative, Obama plans to nearly double the wireless spectrum available for mobile broadband and provide 98 % of Americans with access to 4G high-speed wireless access.
