Twitter Reacts To Angie Martinez Leaving Hot 97

UPDATE: Charlamagne Da God just announced on The Breakfast Club that radio legend Angie Martinez has accepted a role on Power 105.1. Her show will be broadcast from 2pm-6pm starting in July. She’ll also be on the station in Miami, Florida as well. After 15 years with Hot 97, the sudden move has been met with some controversy and concern for the former home where Hip-Hop lived.

Original Story Below:

New York radio station Hot 97 just lost a longtime legend in the form of Angie Martinez.

Known inside and outside of the Tri-State area as “The Voice of New York,” Martinez just recently posted an Instagram photo confirming her resignation from the Hot 97. “Today, I resigned from HOT97,” Martinez wrote in the caption. “I am grateful to the Emmis family for my life. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways.”

Her iconic voice, her defined style, and her founding position in making Hot 97 a staple in where Hip-Hop lives, Martinez was one of the iconic stars in the Emmis Communications roster. Having been a part of the crew, which also boasted DJ Funk Master Flex and DJ Cipha Sounds, since 18-years-old, Angie Martinez interviewed all the legends in the culture from 50 Cent to Jay Z.

Twitter was understandably moved by the announcement, as tweets saluting her legend began flooding in.

If you’re a fan, you can listen to her last show (on now), and bump some “Ladies Night” in her honor.
