BE Smart Hackathon 2017
The Black Enterprise 2017 BE Smart Hackathon, sponsored by Toyota and part of the TechConneXt Summit held in Silicon Valley, is a 24- to 36-hour hackathon in which 15 teams of four college students each work collaboratively to develop an app and compete for prizes.
2016 students enjoyed an all-expenses-paid experience that included a fun ice-breaker activity as well as several skill-building workshops in addition to opportunities to meet sponsors and summit attendees. This year’s hackers are charged with creating a virtual retail environment for Toyota, and each team will submit concept documents and storyboards before the hackathon begins.
Students participating in the 2017 BE Smart Hackathon will work with mentors from Toyota as well as from Twilio.
Three judges assess the students’ apps in light of their projected impact, innovation, and technical achievement, as well as the students’ ability to work as a team and on presentation skills. After meeting with each of the teams one-on-one, the judges select the top three teams to present on the main stage before all summit attendees.
