Cory Dashiell is a senior, Computer Science (CS) major at Morgan State University (MSU) in Baltimore. He obtained his Associate of Arts degree from Harford Community College in General Studies, with a concentration in Cybersecurity. At Morgan, Cory works for the CS department as a computer lab assistant, and is also a member of Morgan State University’s Computer Science club, Society for the Advancement of Computer Science (S.A.C.S.), which is a student chapter of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Mr. Dashiell’s leadership roles include being co-director of Apple Camp, a 4-week summer program for kids 8-12 years old. As the co-director, Cory helps increase the students’ exposure to technology by helping teach over 100 children to use iPad and Mac multimedia software (iLife). He assisted them in creating short films with animations and background music, which they were able to showcase for family and friends. Mr. Dashiell was also elected to serve on the executive board of Morgan’s S.A.C.S. CS club as Webmaster, and manages the social media accounts for the organization. Working in the Computer Science department, he is also responsible for creating and maintaining the department’s social media pages. His group efforts include working with other Morgan students at Google’s 2016 DC Hackathon, where he and his group collaborated on the MSU crime app, an application envisioned to take crime alerts emailed to students, and give them visual representation using Google Maps API. Cory’s passion, dedication, and enthusiasm for CS keeps him motivated to continue exposing himself to new experiences and technology in the growing field of CS. His current interests are in the fields of autonomous vehicles and augmented reality, where he hopes to gain more hands-on experience. Mr. Dashiell currently lives in Aberdeen, Maryland.

I’ve been in multiple hackathons during my time at Morgan. I have a good background in working and being efficient with a team as well as developing a minimum value product in a short amount of time. I recently finished an internship with Facebook where I was trained in iOS development and worked with a team of 3 for 5 weeks to develop a functioning product. I am mainly proficient in iOS development using Swift.

During this past summer, my team developed a web application using Java and Angular 4. I personally worked a little in the middleware Java application but spent the majority of my time working in frontend development. Once we got the application working fully we deployed it to a private cloud.
