Cherish the difficult days - Black Enterprise
Black Enterprise Magazine July/August 2018 Issue

There’s certainly something to be said for the happy, feel-good times in life. Indeed, we are encouraged to focus on and revel in them. But what about the less-than-blissful days, those periods where it seems like nothing is going your way and no one is on your side? Believe it or not, those are the times that should be revered.

“Adversity and challenges are life’s way of creating strength,” writes Willie Jolley in his book A Setback is a Setup for a Comeback (St. Martin’s Press, $23.95). “Adversity creates challenge, and challenge creates change. If there is no change and challenge, there can be no growth.”

In other words, you need the bad in order to appreciate the good; the lows in order to appreciate the highs; the tears in order to appreciate the laughter. Yet, there’s no need to dwell in the depths of despair for too long. While down days are necessary, they don’t last forever. Just keep hanging on and push through to the other side. Happier days are waiting for you.
