The Department of Defense (DOD) is rapidly approaching a deadline which requires all its contractors to re-register with the agency in order to be included in its new Central Contractor Registry (CCR). The CCR is a national storage house of commercial and financial information on current and would-be contractors planning to do business with any of the military branches. It’s designed to provide contracting and payment offices with one-stop access to the data they’d need to do business with vendors across the country. If a company has not registered by March 31, 1998, it will be permanently cut from the contracting process.

“For contractors who want to do business with us, it’s critical they meet this registration deadline,” warns DOD small business specialist Jo- Ann Hunigan. “If they aren’t, they won’t be able to get DOD contracts or solicitations issued after that date.”

Last year, small and economically disadvantaged businesses did about $6.9 billion in business with the Defense Department. There is no registration fee, and contractors can register electronically by visiting the CCR Web site at bin/ For an application, call 800-334-3414 or write to the Department of Defense, ATTN: EC Information Center, 1700 N.
