UniWorld launches film division - Black Enterprise
Black Enterprise Magazine July/August 2018 Issue

Capitalizing on the growing demand for black-themed theatrical films, UniWorld Group Inc. announced the launch of a new division, UniWorld Films.

“UniWorld Films is a natural outgrowth of the work we have been doing for years,” says UniWorld Chairman and CEO Byron Lewis. Not to be confused with the startup of an actual film studio, the new division will actually work with existing studios to market black-themed films to an African American audience, says the division’s new president, Jeff Friday.

“We’ll offer our services to the Hollywood community and leverage UniWorld’s experience in mass-marketing existing films,” says Friday, who previously served as executive director and producer of the Acapulco Black Film Festival. The division actually makes official a practice UniWorld

has been involved in for several years. Among the films it has already marketed are Glory (Tri-Star Pictures), Boyz N’ the Hood (Columbia Pictures),

A Bronx Tale (Savoy Pictures), Malcolm X (Warner Brothers) and Amistad (Dreamworks).
