9 Ways to Maximize Your Smartphone’s Battery Life

We’ve all been there. That moment when your battery power is hovering at five or so percent, you’re far from home and you’re scouring clothing stores, bars and restaurants and anyplace that might possibly have an outlet for a charge. If this sounds like you, you may want to start carrying additional battery packs or a charger with you.

For those that aren’t sold on the idea of toting additional tech with them, The Daily Muse has outlined several ways to ensure your phone battery never dies:

Lower the Brightness

It’s pretty simple, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t monitor their screen brightness, which is one several battery-guzzling features that needs to be monitored. So, turn down the screen brightness. Also, be sure the “Auto-brightness” is turned on so your screen will automatically adjust if you’re in a dark setting.

Watch Your Apps

Apps with heavy graphics or audio will drain your battery and the video games (you know, the free versions with ads) are the worst ones. And if you can’t forgo your Angry Birds or Candy Crush fix, remember to close out of your apps as opposed to simply minimizing them. To close your apps, double tap the home button to see what apps are running, and then hold down on one of the icons until they start shaking. Tap the “-” sign in the top left corner of each app icon to close it.

Download a Battery Saving App

Apps like Battery HD+ and BetterBatteryStats help track your phone’s performance over the course of several days and analyze which apps are doing the most damage.
