5 Reasons Women CEOs Are Awesome

In a new analysis from Fortune, a study showed that there are more female CEOs on record at Fortune 1000 companies than ever before. Why is this such a monumental moment in business? Sit tight, we’ll show you!

“Fortune 1000 companies with female chiefs outperformed the S&P 500 index over their respective tenures,” wrote the publication’s Caroline Fairchild. What this breaks down to is that, in general, female CEOs’ overall performance are higher than their male counterparts when it comes to stock market returns.

This isn’t the only area where women have excelled. As the study reports, the number of female-led Fortune 500 companies has grown from just two in 1998 to 24 in 2014, which marks an all-time high. True, there are incredible disparities in equal pay between men and women, but this is a silver lining for those looking on the bright side of life.

With these intriguing factors, Black Enterprise lists why women CEOs are just plain awesome!

People Favor A Female Leader’s Inherent Traits

Six thousand five hundred people in 13 countries were surveyed on which qualities they thought made for better leaders. Data revealed that people inherently favor leaders who lead by example and handle crises with calm – all characteristics that the study also found to be more common in female leaders.

Superstar Stock Market Returns

Fortune‘s analysis showed that female CEOs record better stock market returns than male CEOs. According to them, only 51 of the Fortune 1000 companies are run by women, so that means female CEOs’ overall performances are higher in terms of ROI.

Wonder Women Performances

Women-led companies intrinsically reward those who invest in them highly. For instance, Mindy Grossman (Home Shopping Network) and Carol Meyrowitz (TJX) are the rare CEOs who generated the highest returns during their respective tenures. The average ROI for performing CEOs in the Fortune 1000 is 103.4%.

In-House CEO Talent

Eighty-two percent of female CEOs are hired internally at the companies they represent. This means that women CEOs are less likely than men to be hired from the outside.

Queens Of Multitasking

Those who disclosed their personal history to Fortune found that 80% of female Fortune 500 CEOs are also wives and mothers.
