Obama Wants High Speed Internet for all Students

President Barack Obama on Thursday will announce plans to equip more school districts with high-speed internet connections, Reuters reports.

The president will make the announcement after touring a Mooresville, N.C. middle school, which administration officials say has improved its test scores and graduation rates through digital learning.

How will Obama’s plan work? The Federal Communications Commission will expand its E-Rate program, a $2.3 billion-per-year federal subsidy that gives public schools and libraries cheaper rates for internet service.

The average U.S. school has a slower internet connection than the typical American home and many cannot stream a web video in multiple classrooms at the same time, according to the White House.
