7 Virtual Reality Headsets We Want Now

In 2016 tech is all about virtual reality. The technology consists of a pair of somewhat awkward looking headsets that immerse the wearer into a virtual, digital world.

Virtual reality is a computer-generated three-dimensional image or environment with which we interact. VR is used primarily for entertainment purposes, but it’s also increasingly being used for marketing and advertising, in medicine and other industries for practical purposes.

A slew of new VR headsets recently hit the market. Here are the VR headsets we want to try out the most:

 

Google Cardboard:

The most affordable VR headset on the market, Google Cardboard is made from cardboard cut into the shape, somewhat like a ViewMaster toy. It works with a smartphone. Slide your phone into the Cardboard viewer with the screen facing the lenses. There are a number of apps for it on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

 

Homido Virtual Reality Smartphone Headset:

The Homido headset

works with both iPhones and Android smartphones. The binocular vision mode of the headset and the two VR lenses offer a perfect stereoscopic experience. Additionally, the headset is adjustable for those who wear glasses.

HTC Vive:

The HTC Vive is great for VR gaming with its precise motion tracking and natural controller gestures. Its front-facing camera provides truly immersive VR. The Vive is one of the pricier headsets on the market and works with desktop computers and laptops.

Oculus Rift:

Rift also uses a PC to power the VR experience. Xbox gamers may be particularly attracted to this headset since it ships with a headset, sensor, remote, cables, and an Xbox controller.

Samsung Gear:

The Samsung Gear is optimized to work with its Galaxy smartphones. The latest Gear has a wider interface and is 19% lighter compared to the previous model. It also has  larger side touchpad for greater control.

Sony PlayStation VR:

This is the VR headset that is a companion to the PS4 console. The headset plugs right into a PS4. With tracking by the PlayStation Camera, it provides a precise capture of natural movement in virtual space.

Zeiss VR One:

The Zeiss VR One is compatible with iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, S6, Nexus 5, and LG-G3 smartphones. There are hundreds of apps available for it on Google Play and the Apple App Store. It also supports First Person View (FPV) from a drone.
