The 5 Best Black Girls Code Apps You Should Know

For those who are unaware of the powerfully influential Black Girls CODE organization, please take time to check this piece out.

The Oakland, California-founded grassroots foundation helps to promote education and mentorship in the field of technology. By exposing young girls and teens to opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Black Girls CODE is encouraging our future to take the world by storm.

This past weekend, Verizon and Break The Cycle p

artnered up with BGC to showcase the #LoveIsRespect hackathon. In fitting fashion, the highlights were captured on Twitter, so we thought it best to hip you techies to the five best apps that you should know about. Enjoy!

Today’s youth are thinking about how to contribute to their homes and communities. This app dubbed “The List” aims to spotlight available jobs for teens interested in working.

As these young minds continue to grow into womanhood, their questions about relationships develop through the apps they create. The “Love Or Abuse” app seemingly attempts to differentiate between a happy and healthy relationship versus a destructive one. Great idea!

The bullying problem in schools inside and out of America is a huge problem. Group Palindrome has taken umbrage with this issue, and created “Bully Be Gone,” in an attempt to stop the unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children.

Black Girls CODE and their hackathons mean encouraging young minds to find solutions to major problems in their lives and communities. Break The Cycle, a sponsor to this past weekend’s event, spotlighted a group that aims to support healthy relationships.

As Twitter becomes one of the fastest means of communication, these brilliant young minds push it a step further with their “Code Blue” app. It helps emergency and police to effectively respond to any situation.
