Blacks With College Degrees Live Longer

Study reveals blacks with college degrees have higher life expectancy

In case you needed any more reason to go to college or graduate school, a new study in Health Affairs reveals that African Americans with a bachelor’s degree or higher can extend their life expectancy by as much as 10 years.

Black women and men with less than 12 years of education are living ten to 14 years less, respectively, than their white counterparts with 16 or more years of education. However, for those with a college or advanced degree, black males and females’ life expectancy increases considerably. While experts agree that socioeconomic conditions play a critical role in the life expectancy of African Americans, one’s educational background can now be added to that list.
