Brown occurred roughly 24 hours before BLACK ENTERPRISE was scheduled to go to press with the following article announcing Atlanta Life as its Financial Services Company of the Year. After some discussion on how best to proceed, the editors felt the appropriate way to honor Brown’s legacy was to run the article as intended — as Brown would have read it. We felt that the story accurately captured his scholarly disposition, strong leadership skills, and business achievements and that it would be a disservice to him and the team at Atlanta Life to alter the article following Brown’s passing.
