Top 10 Best States for Working Mothers

Despite women making up 58.6 percent of the American workforce, they still earn 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. When examining the number of women who have climbed up the corporate ladder, it’s clear that mobility is still limited with less than 5 percent of Fortune 500 companies having female CEOs.

With other factors outside of work politics coming into play when examining the success of working mothers, WalletHub released a report that analyzes what states address the needs of working women the most. They studied three factors including child care, professional opportunities and work-life balance and from there made an assessment on the best and worst states. When it came to best day care systems, New York came in at number one while Idaho came in last. When it came to gender pay gap, Vermont had the lowest gap and Wyoming had the highest. For overall ranking, with all factors included, Vermont topped the list for the best state for working mothers, while Louisiana came in last.
