Celebrity Stylists Share Fashion and Beauty Tips for Working Women

With fall upon us, it’s the perfect time to whip out some fresh new tips and refresh your wardrobe and makeup bag.

Colgate Optic White and Family Dollar Fabulous invited celebrity makeup artist AJ Crimson, whose clients include Cassie, Serayah, Lauren London, and Brandy;  and, celebrity stylist Anastasia Walker, who has styled Madonna, Lupita Nyong’o, and Gigi Hadid, to share insider beauty and style tips and tricks for women-on-the-go looking to get fly and fabulous in no time at all.

Family Dollar Fabulous is a program that helps honor African American and multicultural women by highlighting how inner beauty, when combined with fashion, unique features, skin tones, and hairstyles, “makes them all fabulous, fantastic, and fashionable.” Crimson, Walker, and Claire Sulmers, fashion blogger and Colgate ambassador, hosted a New York Fashion Week event, which kicked-off at Family Dollar where attendees received a tour of the many brands the store has to offer. Guests also visited the local black-owned business Harlem Skin & Laser Clinic before jetting to Harlem Fashion Row for its annual pop-up shop featuring multicultural designers.

AJ Crimson’s Beauty Tips

“Luscious lashes are always on trend. Sometimes mascara alone isn’t enough for a dramatic eye look, which is why I love great eyelashes. One of my favorite tricks to create more natural luscious lashes is to take a strip lash style you love and cut them into four sections before applying. Doing this will break up the lash and allow them to feel more like your own. You can perfect the lash line by using liquid liner.”

Create a new nail polish out of eye shadow color. “One of my favorite things to customize is nail polish. Using a shade of metallic eye shadows, scrape a bit of shadow on a mixing tray and add a clear near polish.  You now have a way to try something new or repurpose old eyeshadow that didn’t quite work on you.”

Anastasia Walker’s Fashion Tips

“Have you ever tried on an outfit, looked in the mirror, and thought it looked great only to see pictures from the event and realize it looked nowhere as fabulous as you thought? Cameras have the ability to pick up on details we miss. Before special events or first dates, I recommend snapping a quick pic. Taking a picture will help you remember a killer outfit. Sometimes we forget how we wore something or why it worked well before. Snap a photo and save it so you have a great go-to look that you know you can fall back on.”

Use the proper ratio for showing skin. “We all want to feel sexy and confident and showing skin is an easy way to accomplish this. However, it’s important to be strategic to the ratio of skin that should be exposed. The best way to do this is to pick one area to highlight. For example, if you’re showing off your legs, opt out of revealing cleavage. “
