Former Players Sue NFL, Claim Painkillers Led to Addictions

According to The NY Daily News, the National Football League is being sued by several former players who are accusing the NFL of illegally utilizing painkillers instead of proper health care to get them healthy enough to play the game.

Former players J.D. Hill, Jim McMahon and six other former NFL players say that the league illegally gave them narcotics and other painkillers that eventually led them to addiction and long-term medical complications.

“Rather than allowing players the opportunity to rest and heal, the NFL has illegally and unethically substituted pain medications for proper health care to keep the NFL’s tsunami of dollars flowing,” the lawsuit says of the league which earned about $9 billion in revenues last year.

An NFL spokesman says they have not seen the lawsuit and have not had an opportunity to review it.
