Recently, Hot 97’s Laura Stylez & Nessa hosted the wrap-up party for their Ultimate Prom Experience contest, presented by the “Hip Hop Has Heart Foundation.” In celebration of prom season, Laura & Nessa teamed up with LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics to provide a deserving girl in the New York Tri-State area a glam makeover, dress and limo to help make their once-in-a-lifetime experience even more special. Eligible contestants entered online describing why they deserved to win the Ultimate Prom Experience.
The 10 finalists came out to the wrap-up party at LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics in Herald Square, where Angelique from Brooklyn was named the Ultimate Prom Experience Winner! Â She and the other finalists were able to hang out with Laura & Nessa, enjoy beauty treatments and refreshments, and listen to music by HOT 97’s Megan Ryte.
Everyone went home a winner, receiving special goodie bags courtesy of HOT 97 and LUSH, as well as a gift card to LUSH for finalists to pick out their favorite products from the night’s event!
BlackEnterprise.com caught up with Nessa to find out why hosting a prom giveaway experience was so important to her.
What is the prom contest, what inspired it and what your goals were when you began the project?
Nessa: I really wanted to be able to give a deserving girl in New York City, the best prom experience ever. When I was growing up, I didn’t have an older sister to help me for prom or someone that I could ask questions to. So I wanted to be able to give back and make a girl going to prom feel special. We had girls enter as to why the should deserve to win the Ultimate Prom Experience and the winner was able to get hair and makeup for prom done by my personal glam squad, a ride to prom from Skyland Transfers, a luxury car service that I use and even a dress for prom! 10 girls that qualified and were most deserving were invited to a Qualifier’s party that we threw at Lush Cosmetics, a brand that I love! They were pampered with all the spa amenities like facials and massages, etc. It was so great seeing these girls and talking to them about prom. I loved it!
How do you feel after the event and what did you hope to accomplish with the prom project?
After the event I was so happy that we were able to do this for these girls. Many of them came with friends and some came with their moms. I would have loved something like this growing up so to see the smiles on their faces and happiness from advice I gave them meant the world to me. I want to be able to show girls that with hard work you will get what you deserve. A lot of these girls are working hard in school and thinking about college so to be able to give them a break from that was great.
