Oprah Winfrey to Play Richard Pryor’s Grandmother in Biopic


According to The Washington Post, Oprah Winfrey has a role in the upcoming Richard Pryor biopic. Fresh off the news that comedian Mike Epps will play the legendary comedian, it was announced that Winfrey will play the role of Pryor’s grandmother.

Marie Carter Pryor Bryant, was a madam who ran a string of whorehouses in Peoria, Illonois, while raising Pryor. Pryor’s mother, Gertrude, worked for Bryant as well. She left the family when Pryor was 10 years old.

Lee Daniels, who is directing the film, has directed Winfrey previously in his hit movie, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”
