My Black is Beautiful: Tatyana Ali and Patrice Yursik Imagine a Future

Patrice Yursik: It’s so hard to choose just one favorite moment! Michelle Obama’s speech where she affirmed why Black Girls Rock and brought the M.A.D Girls up on stage with her was so special and I felt so proud of the girls—it was so beautiful to witness. Nadia Lopez’s speech set the room on fire. She is so fierce and so amazing and so inspiring. My favorite musical performances were by Faith Evans and Fantasia; Fantasia blew the roof off!

Why was it important for you to get involved with MBIB’s Imagine a Future?

I am so absolutely honored to partner with MBIB and to celebrate Black Girls Rock! There is so much synergy between Afrobella’s message and the work of MBIB.  From the moment I saw the Imagine a Future documentary, I got a greater understanding of the importance of Black Girls Rock! as an organization. It’s so much more than an awards show. I want all young girls of color to see the Imagine a Future documentary and understand the world is big, complex, beautiful and ready for them to conquer, because we are beautiful and capable and can do anything we put our minds to.

As a black girl blogger who rocks, what business tip would you offer a blogger in gaining traffic?

I think the most important business tip in gaining traffic is consistency and quality. Be consistent with your work, be consistent in your quality. Take pride in the content you create. Your name is attached to it and you’re essentially branding yourself as an expert and creating a virtual resume of what you’re capable of doing. Consistent quality for the past nine years has gotten me to where I am today!
