On Oct. 13, Panla andA Taste of Africa USA launched New York’s first ever African Restaurant Week (NYARW) with a kickoff event at Taj Lounge in the heart of the Big Apple. Foodies got the opportunity to taste the diverse flavors and cultures of the continent, network among professionals from fields including media, finance and fashion, and enjoy live music and performances.
“Within the rapidly burgeoning culinary scene in NYC, New York African Restaurant Week presents an exciting and unique opportunity to celebrate the best of African culture,†said Akin Akinsanya, CEO of A Taste of Africa and founder of NY African Restaurant Week.
This event was only a preview of what’s to come, as African Restaurant Week continues through Oct. 20. Diners can enjoy prix-fix three-course meals at several high-caliber African restaurants and entertainment and networking at special events held in the city.
Food was prepared for an assortment of palates and cultures.
Attendees were privy to an abundance of options to taste from award-winning restaurants.
Wines by African- and minority-owned companies also provided tastings to pare with dishes.
