Magic Johnson Announces New Youth Program in Chicago

Johnson is battling the issue of dropouts in low income areas.

magic johnsonMagic Johnson has another venture and it will benefit Chicago youth.

Johnson launched his Friends of Magic initiative on Wednesday which will help at risk students and dropouts to complete their high school degrees.

Rapper Common has joined Johnson in the venture. He attended the launch event along with the governor of Illinois Pat Quinn at the Magic Johnson Bridgescape Academy. The Academy is one of many that Johnson has across the U.S.

Huffington Post states that the academy contracts with Chicago public schools to help dropouts.

  2. I have to give Magic Johnson some credit. He definitely has placed a focus on helping inner city communities. Not just talk but he backs it up with his dollars and joint ventures with banks and financial institutions.

    Some so-called Black Leaders could learn from this.

    I wish the black banking venture that Magic started with Janet Jackson and Jeryl Busby had worked. Magic was trying to get black athletes to do their banking at a black bank.
    The idea had no success and the bank was sold.
