Serena Williams Wins Grand Slam Title

Serena Williams joined an elite class of tennis players today, Sept. 7, when she tied Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova with her 18th Grand Slam singles title.

Williams defeated Caroline Wozniacki to get her third United States Open final in a row and sixth over all.

“It was a pleasure to win my first Grand Slam here and now No. 18,” Williams said after her victory.  She saw her first win at the U.S. Open in 1999 at age 17, and now, the 32-year-old is fourth in major singles titles with Evert and Navratilova, who also have 18 each.
