Mobile Innovation Competition to Take Place in Washington, D.C.

Are solving the ills of unemployment, hunger, gang violence, health and education disparities, and homelessness at the top of your to-do list? If so, and if you’re using wireless technologies in your solution, then you could be eligible to win The Mobileys third-annual national competition, sponsored by Mobile Future. The application period opened July 22 and runs through October 2, 2015.

“The Mobileys is about recognizing and supporting innovations that rise above the fray and use mobile connectivity in groundbreaking ways to help change the world,” said Mobile Future Chair Jonathan Spalter. “Last year’s submissions represented some of the nation’s most inspiring wireless innovations, and I can’t wait to see how this year’s applicants harness the power and potential of wireless connectivity to shape our mobile future.”

The challenge, to be held in Washington D.C., celebrates entrepreneurs who inspire and make a difference through mobile innovation. Innovators are encouraged to submit their game-changing mobile apps, products, and services for the chance to win up to $10,000, along with a trip to Washington, DC to meet leaders in innovation policy.

Among the judges selected to evaluate each entry are Kathryn Finney, founder of Digital Undivided and a White House Champion of Change. Finney launched FOCUS 100, an incubator for Black Women-owned startups. She will join Speak Chic creator, Monique Woodard, co-founder of Silicon Valley Think Tank, Black Founders. Speak Chic is a mobile app that helps you pronounce fashion brands. The judges will take into account the demo, the company’s need for capital, the social impact, stage of launch, and ability to leverage wireless networks.

The grand prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the submission that best utilizes wireless technologies to create lasting social benefit. Also awarded will be a second place prize of $5,000, a third place prize of $2,500, and a people’s choice award of $2,500. Applications will be accepted through October 2, 2015 and winners will be announced in Washington, DC in mid-November.

Applicants should be individuals or start-ups that have either recently launched their nominated mobile app, service or other product, or plan to do so within six months. The submission should be a product that runs on wireless networks and uses mobile in new ways to have a positive social impact. Winners will be announced in Washington, DC in mid-November.

Mobile Future is an association of cutting-edge technology and communications companies and a diverse group of nonprofit organizations working to support an environment that encourages investment and innovation in the dynamic wireless sector.
