Summer is the season of pleasant weather, family gatherings, long days and short nights. And it’s the perfect season to explore new places, meet new people and perhaps learn a new craft. All across the United States there are plenty of events just waiting for people like you to come and experience them. Here are five you might want to put on your list.

Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (Brooklyn, New York)

According to the website, “Our aim is to highlight hip-hop’s legacy as an agent of artistic progression, community building and social change.” Wes Jackson created the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival in 2005. With headliners such as Q-Tip, KRS-One, Lupe Fiasco, Brand Nubian, and Busta Rhymes, the Brooklyn Hip-Hop festival has embodied the true essence of the ’70s and ’80s counterculture that became mainstream. The Festival, held in July, draws a sizable audience and connects younger and older generations.
