Newly Motivated by a New President

New Yorkers Marilyn Watson and Nabege Alexis, arrived in Washington on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. and since then have been standing on the city’s streets braving frigid temperatures to sell Obama emblazoned caps, sweatshirts, calendars, and buttons. Sales have been great and both are having a blast.

“Oh my god, I’m so excited, I’m overwhelmed,” cried Alexis, who is a mixed media artist. “This is what it means to be in America, what it means to have dreams and make them possible. Obama has definitely brought back the motivation. Education and sticking to your goals and dreams are very important.”

Social worker Watson has always believed that anything is possible, but, she says, “I’m so happy to see a man of color in the White House.” The biggest change she expects to come from it is the way people of color will now be perceived and it will be recognized that they can reach the same levels of accomplishment as anybody else in the world.

When asked how they’ll use the money they make during their visit to the nation’s capitol, they say the answer is obvious. “Invest it, of course!” said Alexis.
