Jesse Jackson Urges Obama to Come to Chicago

At a press conference on Saturday, Rev. Jesse Jackson asked President Obama to come to Chicago and initiate a federal intervention to address the increasing number of deadly shootings in the beleaguered city.

Jackson was speaking prior to a march in memory of gun violence victims in the city and said that Chicago is in the midst of a unique crisis and that Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the police department need help. Some are calling for assistance from the coast guard.

Jackson says a visit from Obama to the area would show “ultimate national seriousness.” 157 shootings and 42 homicides have already occurred in Chicago since 2013 began. Chicago surpassed 500 murders last year.
