5. Liberty Bank and Trust Co.

Liberty Bank & Trust Co. was established in 1972 with the opening of its first office in a trailer located on a New Orleans corner lot. More than 30 years later, the financial institution has become a banking powerhouse in the South.

Today, Liberty is the nation’s fifth largest black-owned bank, a corporate partner with more than 70 Fortune 500 companies, and a major financial services supplier to government agencies throughout Louisiana and Mississippi.
In February 2009, the bank added New Orleans-based United Bank and Trust to its expanding portfolio. The acquisition increased Liberty’s branch location to 17 in five states: Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas.
