What does being one of the BEMM 100 Men of Distinction mean to you?
It’s a great honor! I hope this provides a platform for me to encourage black teens and young adults to pursue a career in hospitality. Travel with a purpose!
What are some examples of how you turned struggle into success?
Normally I try to be optimistic and look for the good in everyone and everything. However, I realized the more you achieve, the less optimistic you become. When faced with a difficult decision/project, removing emotion will keep you focused on the desired outcome.
What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?
Clear communication.
What are some immediate projects you are working on?
Rehabilitating my rental property and working on a venture with my wife.
What is the best advice you ever received?
Keep God first.
What is some advice you have for other men who want to make a difference?
Identify a vision for your personal brand and develop a board of directors for your brand—spiritual advisers, financial advisers, life coach, etc. Always listen to your gut instinct. Neither look up to the rich or down to the poor.
How do you prep for an important business meeting and/or event?
Prior to every business meeting I work out, listen to inspirational gospel, pray and ask that God speak through me and give me wisdom in areas where I may lack. I then walk myself through the conversations to anticipate any obstacles the customer may pose and how I would overcome them.
As a busy Modern Man, how do you unwind on vacation?
I enjoy visiting tropical destinations where I can do water activities like snorkel, kayak, and jet ski. My best vacation was in Hawaii with my wife, snorkeling the beautiful Pacific Ocean, hiking Diamond Head Mountain, visiting Pearl Harbor, and visiting the various farmer’s markets throughout the island.
If you could travel and stay anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort and Spa. This resort is located on two blue lagoons surrounded by 800 miles of white sand beaches and the perfect destination for water activities and hiking the volcanoes.
Anything else you’d like to say?
A few rules I like to live by: Be too generous to cheat and too brave to lie ; and lose, if need be, without squeaking and win without bragging.
