Today is Earth Day, and it’s a time to celebrate the beauty of the world we live in, as well as remember ways to preserve it. It’s also a time to look at green careers and how you can align your passion for preserving the Earth with the way you make a living.
According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 3 million people hold “green” jobs. A half a million are in manufacturing, 370,000 in construction, and nearly 350,000 in professional, scientific and technical services.
Though according to the Bureau, they halted “green jobs” reporting due to budget cuts, there are still options out there for those who want to pursue. Forbes staffer Jacquelyn Smith details the options, offering the following suggestions:
Work for a company whose main line of work is focused on the environment: This could range from nonprofit environmental organizations to environmental science centers to government agencies to health and beauty companies. Your job title may not be directly environmental, but it can contribute to the overall conservation or Earth-friendly mission of the company.
Work for a company that emphasizes environmental sustainability. This includes offices that promote green business practices and environments.
