No matter how good you are at what you do, it’s likely you have your eyes set on something bigger and better. The easy part is realizing your desire to make your next major career move. But the difficulty lies in trying to execute your vision.
Well 21 year-old Alicia May was standing in your shoes before being promoted recently to general manager at a Five Guys restaurant franchise location. As the GM, Alicia is responsible for all of the day-to-day operations, particularly staffing, scheduling, sales, team/crew performance, health and safety code compliance, customer service, and purchasing.

1) Express interest to decision-makers and hiring officials that you have your eyes set on a particular position.
2) Work hard and learn everything you can about the position. Ask if you can shadow or be trained as the back-up person.
3) Grow within the company and do extra work so decision-makers will know you are seriously committed to the company.
4) Be full of passion when you come to work every day.
5) Identify your weaknesses and work on them immediately. Don’t run from them.
