As Vice President of Partnerships, Americas for Google, Bonita Stewart makes it clear that her unique entry into tech is what has helped her to excel in the industry.
Having spent more than a decade at IBM and two separate stints at Chrysler, she joined the Google family in 2006 and has since used her business acumen to help the firm grow from the nearly 100% search company it was 10 years ago to the tech leader it is today.
“Do not be afraid to follow the road less traveled,” said Stewart. “If I had not ventured into technology with a business background, I would not have had this career trajectory.”
Stewart, who attended Howard University before earning her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, admits that when she graduated it was very uncommon for business graduates to enter the tech industry.
Now, as an executive for one of the nation’s top tech companies, Stewart is responsible for managing strategy development and revenue growth plans for partners across all verticals using Google products, including DoubleClick publisher technology, advertising exchanges, search, video, mobile, and social.
In an exclusive interview with BlackEnterprise.com, Stewart, who made our list for Top Women in Advertising and Marketing, opens up about the best advice she’s ever received and why she would advise her 21-year-old self to gain more global experience.
