Applause Africa, a media brand for progressive Africans in the diaspora, hosted the African Diaspora Awards (ADA) Nov. 30 in New York City. The event, hosted by Emmy-nominated media professional Ojinika Obiekwe and Nasser Diallo, honored the entrepreneurial, philanthropic and leadership achievements of global leaders.
Nobel Peace Prize winner and activist Leymah Roberta Gbowee delivered a stirring keynote address on the “The Power of Our Voice,” and was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
America’s Next Top Model alumna Nnenna Agbai, a native of Nigeria, was honored with the Face Of Africa award.
Manyang Reath Kher, center, a native of Sudan, was the Humanitarian of the Year honoree for his work with Humanity Helping Sudan Project Inc., (HHSP), an organization that provides aid and resources to the Sudanese diaspora.
