Ethopia-born Amsale Aberra was able to transcend from being an assistant making chic office fashions to becoming a leading powerhouse in the multimillion-dollar bridal industry. A Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit alumna, she was honored in 2012 for her leadership and career advancement with a Legacy Award. Her creations have been worn by everyday women as well as celebrities including Halle Berry, Lisa Loeb, and Bethany Frankel.

“I started [my label] right after my wedding in 1985. I was looking for a very simple gown for myself and thought ‘I can’t be the only person searching for this.’ and so I started a small custom business,” the University of Massachusetts graduate told Black Enterprise in a recent interview. “I never really considered myself an innovator. More than being an innovator, I’m someone who is passionate about consistently making a product I believe in.”
