The leaves are changing. The air is brisk. Fall is officially here (earlier than expected in some places). This is my favorite season because the drop in temperature allows you the chance to truly showcase your style by playing with different colors and textures. Another reason is for the ability to get away for a cozy weekend with that special person. In this edition of Suit Your Life I’ll give you the perfect weekend getaway wardrobe that will take you from apple picking in the orchard to a nice candle lit dinner at a fine restaurant that evening to anything else you may want to do in between. —Gardy V. Guerrier

SYL TIP: When prepping for a weekend trip, pack light. Choose items that compliment each other, and can be interchanged and layered, to give you the most outfit options without having to take up too much space in your weekend bag.

VICTORIA ROWELL: Known for her role as Drucilla Winters on the Emmy award-winning The Young & Restless, Rowell had a childhood filled with many challenges, ultimately leading to her, along with her siblings, being surrendered to Child Services. Rowell was only 16 days old. She grew up in the foster care system, raised for 18 years by a varied network of women who she details in her memoir, The Women Who Raised Me (William Morrow; $26). In 1983 amateur boxer Dewey Bozella was accused and later convicted of a murder he didn’t commit. It took 26 years in New York’s notorious Sing Sing prison before his name could be cleared. Now a free man, Bozella, 52, finally got the chance to live out his dream of being a professional fighter when he stepped into the ring on October 14 and went against 30-year-old fighter, Larry Hopkins, at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. Against all odds, Bozella not only finished the fight but won against an opponent 22 years his junior. The redeemed pugilist ended the evening saying, “Don’t ever give up.” In light of Bozella’s determination and story of redemption, BlackEnterprise.com takes a look at seven notable figures that were able to find success despite carrying the stigma of being formerly incarcerated. —Amber McKynzie
