Consumer Tip of the Day: Diversify Online Shopping Sources to Find Deals

If you’re looking for a great deal on an item, your first stop is most likely online retailer Amazon. However, you’d probably be very surprised to learn that this might not always be the best place to go for a great deal.

A recent report from Savings.com reveals that Amazon doesn’t always have the lowest prices.

The report found that more than 50% of the time, Amazon actually had higher prices than other online retailers.

Amazon is probably the first place you go because you’re not motivated enough to look in more than one place for a deal. Don’t be lazy when it comes to saving money. The right way to get the best deal is by comparison shopping.

Thankfully, there are tools available to help you find the best price. Savings.com announced it will be launching a new service called PriceJump, which automatically compares Amazon prices with product prices around the web. Savings.com research found that when it came to purchases of more than $100, PriceJump beat Amazon’s prices about 70% of the time.

Now that the economy is slightly better, comparison shopping isn’t as popular as it used to be. But just because someone says they always get good deals at a particular store doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do a little leg work.
