Consumer Tip: Get a Copy of Your Specialty Report

Thanks to a warning sent by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to specialty consumer reporting agencies, it’s easier access to your specialty consumer reports.

A specialty reporting company focuses on certain industries, and their reports contain information such as medical payments; check-writing, rental, and employment history; and insurance claims.

Unlike credit reports, which can be ordered through AnnualCreditReport.com, specialty consumer reports must be ordered directly from the reporting agency. Reports are not required to be free, but must be no more than $11.50.

The CFPB website (www.consumerfinance.gov) has a list of companies offering specialty reports, along with their addresses and phone numbers.
