If you’re anything like me, the idea of waking up at 3am on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving when holiday shopping sales generally begin) to go out in the cold, deal with holiday traffic, throngs of pushy people, and unhelpful employees just to buy a toaster or a pair of Dockers just doesn’t seem that appealing. However, if surfing the Web on Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving) from the comfort of your home with a cup of coffee in hand for 40% off that Ralph Lauren cashmere sweater on your loved one’s wish list is more your speed then this edition of Suit Your Life is for you. Here are five tips for successful deal-finding this Cyber Monday. —Gardy V. Guerrier
Compare and save
Most retailers will be offering some type of Cyber Monday special with deals as high as 80% off. However, not all deals are built the same. RalphLauren.com may be offering 40% off that cashmere sweater, but Macys.com may be offering the same deal with free shipping and an additional 15% off if you use your Macy’s credit card. Don’t just look at the price but double check multiple sources to make sure you are getting the best deal available.
SYL TIP: Many credit card companies offer special incentives, such as travel miles, points, and cash back deals, when you click to your intended retailer through their shopping mall. Here’s a link to the airline malls.
Get there early
Even though you’re not leaving your house, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shop early. Most online retailers, such as Amazon.com, Macys.com, and Overstock.com are already offering pre-holiday deals just as good as the ones you’ll find on Monday. The beauty of shopping early is you will run less of a risk of your dream item being out of stock.
