“I was a little girl with a potbelly and afro puffs, hyperactive and overdramatic. And I found the theater, and I found my home,” said Audra McDonald, a now five-time Tony Award-winning actress. The 41-year old leading lady picked up her fifth Tony Award Sunday evening for her role in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess at Richard Rogers Theater.  Her powerful performance as “Bess” in Porgy and Bess earned her the title of best lead actress in a musical.
