Cuba Gooding Jr. to Play O.J. Simpson In ‘American Crime Story’

From the award-winning talents of Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) comes a new show which is bound to cause controversy.

Titled American Crime Story, this new show will serve as a companion anthology focused on real-life cases that made national headlines. FX ordered the series and will air 10 episodes in its first season. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sarah Paulson will star in “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” as the former NFL great and prosecutor Marcia Clark.

The episode is based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, which will provide audiences with an insider’s look at the trial of the 20th Century. Audiences will be treated to both sides of the court, the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings, and how certain combustible ingredients led to a jury coming away with reasonable doubt.

“Time and time again, Ryan Murphy has transformed the medium of television by redefining genres and formats as he did with Nip/Tuck, Glee, and the American Horror Story franchise, and we expect the same of American Crime Story,” said John Landgraf. “Scott and Larry have adapted Jeffrey Toobin’s book into a masterful 10-hour piece.” Murphy, the show’s creator, said, “This is an exciting project for me as I’ve been looking for the right property which could serve as an extension of the American Horror Story brand I love so much.”

“The O.J. case was as tragic as it was fascinating – it seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age.”

Gooding Jr., repped by ICM Partners, co-starred in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. He is also featured in Ava DuVernay’s Selma and co-stars in the upcoming BET miniseries The Book Of Negroes and Comedy Central’s Big Time In Hollywood, FL.

Production on American Crime Story will begin early next year in Los Angeles.
