Preview Our World: Soul Musician Eric Benét Talks Music & Marriage

With his sixth studio album and new single, “Harriett Jones,” soul singer Eric Benét is back in a big way.  This weekend on an all-new Our World with Black Enterprise, host Marc Lamont Hill caught up with the Grammy-nominated artist on location at the Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit to talk music, marriage and maturity.

On his new music: “The name of the album is The One because I’ve been wishing my whole career to have my own label and release my own music. All that music I made at Warner Brothers, you know Warner owns all that stuff.  The very first release on Jordan House Records [my new label] is getting such a strong reaction it just feels incredible.”

On his new life: “I’m incredibly blessed to have this woman in my life, my wife Manuela, in addition to my daughter India who is just amazing in every possible way.  Manuela and I, we just had our first child, Lucia.”

On his first marriage to Halle Berry: “I feel like neither one of us were ready for each other. Relationships are difficult. The evolution of being a man takes awhile for some of us, [and] it took awhile for me.”

The episode also features a profile on Johnathan Lee Iverson, the first Black ringmaster for Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus. Our World takes you under the big top to meet the man at the center of the greatest show on Earth.  Plus, our reporter’s round table tackles hot topics with Jeff Johnson, Lola Ogunnaike and Rahiel Tesfamariam.

Our World with Black Enterprise airs this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. on TV One and on local stations across the country.  Check your local listings and visit www.blackenterprise.com/ourworld for additional time and station information.
