Lil Wayne first entered the music scene at 11 years old as just another kid in New Orleans who wanted to rap; now, nearly 20 years later, he’s one of the biggest names in hip-hop. He’s lived the “dream.” But while the money, women, cars, chains and any other stereotypical cultural icon may seem like the high point of his life, his life behind the scenes is what really keeps him going.
From his first born, Reginae Carter, to his children that followed, those seem to be the things that really make him smile. But when it comes to Dwayne Carter, family and business are virtually in each other’s pocket. Teaching his daughter to become the next entertainment novelty and his sons the importance of carrying on the family name, it’s clear Wayne knows a thing or two about how to hold down a family business. It’s Weezy, baby!
It’s the OMG Girlz
Following in the footsteps of her superstar father, Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae, T.I.’s daughter, Zonnique aka Star, and two friends, Basha aka Beauty and Lourdes aka Lolo, started a preteen quartet in 2008, and to the country they were known as the OMG Girlz (Officially Miss Guided). The group acquired their first national performance on BET’s Tiny & Toya, a reality show that followed the lives of Lil Wayne’s ex, Antonia “Toya” Carter and T.I.’s wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle Harris. After the group released their first single, “Ain’t Nobody,” in 2010, Reginae left the quartet and they became a trio.
Tha Carter III
Lil Wayne may have a tribe of children, if you will, but Dwayne Carter III and his mother Sarah Vivian, one of three women to birth a Carter son, often make headlines. Dwayne III, who’s only three, is racking up a list of celebrity friends whose bank accounts are as big as his… including Derrick Rose’s son, Derrick “PJ” Rose, Jr. The little Carter was also readily juxtaposed to Young Money leader in 2008 when he released his 7th studio album, Tha Carter III. The album cover was a young Lil Wayne, which looks like it could be his son’s twin.
Nothing Like a Sweet 13
As the first child, heiress and star in the making to maintain the Carter thrown, it’s only fitting that Reginae celebrate her 13th birthday with her father in style. Knowing that every little girl deserves the dream, Baby Carter rang in her first teenage year with a Cinderella-themed party filled with family and friends.
An Inseparable Mother/Daughter Team
Reginae has been in the spotlight alongside her mother since she was born. In 2009, her mom, Toya, landed a show on BET, and the personal lives of the original Carter family were aired for all to see. Seemingly, the mother-daughter duo became stars in their own right. Soon after the show launched, Toya released a book called Priceless Inspirations, which shares her life as a teenage mother married to a rising star.
The Paparazzi Princesses
No teenage girl can handle the spotlight on her own, so it seems like Reginae Carter made a best friend in none other than Brian “Birdman” Williams’ daughter, Bria. The two have ventured into the entertainment industry with the guidance of their fathers, and are now slated to release their first book together, Paparazzi Princesses, slated to hit stores next Tuesday (June 4).
They Built an Empire
Lil Wayne convinced Cash Money Records to sign him to their label while he was just 11 years old. First known in the rap world as Gangsta D, Wayne eventually changed his name to what the world recognizes him as today. But it’s no secret; Wayne wouldn’t be Weezy without the help of Birdman. Over the years, the two have become virtually inseparable to the point of sitting at the base of many “too-close-for-comfort” jokes; but that doesn’t seem to faze them because they’re still on top of Forbes’ bread-winner list.
Make it a Family Thing
Wayne, his Young Money/Cash Money family and their children are closer than close. They’ve turned what seemed to be just a hope and a dream in New Orleans into something music fans can’t live without. And now they’ve made it a family thing. Their kids may just be 15 and younger right now, but they’re being bred for the spotlight right on time.
Wayne Loves His Children
Weezy may talk about nothing but women all day, but there’s one thing people can’t deny, and that’s that he truly loves his family.
