I am excited about the fact that an African American Director has finally received an award for Best Director. I am even more excited about the day that he will be seen as not only an African American Director, but a Director. I am from a generation that is tired of hearing the term “Black Movie” and is waiting for the day that African American Directors break through and create films that transcend racial lines. I look forward to movie audiences being a mixing pot of cultures despite the race of the actors. I think films such as Dream Girls and Precious have started that movement.
