Smiley celebrates 10 years of his show, ‘Tavis Smiley’ on PBS. His voice is one that refuses to be silenced and he uses his platform to inform, criticize and more importantly, bring notice to issues he deems necessary to speak on.
Gaining congratulatory praises from esteemed colleagues, writer Maya Angelou tweeted: “Tavis Smiley, who rightly calls himself one of my sons, deserves hallelujahs & congratulations for his 2000th show tonight on PBS!”
Smiley states, “You’re going to be challenged when you address inconvenient truths. Sometimes you’re challenged with merit, sometimes without merit. I try to be authentic and be a truth-teller. I have no monopoly on the truth but can try to raise questions that get at the truth.”
