Head Of The Class

All-in-one desktop solutions have come a long way since the days of large, clunky, black and white fax/ printer/copiers. And Canon’s MultiPass MP390 color inkjet provides more than simple functionality. In addition to the usual fare (copy, fax, scan), you also get a desktop photo printer that can print directly from either a memory card or a Canon-approved digital camera.

As with most Canon products, the MultiPass was a breeze to set up. We were able to pop in our SmartMedia and SD cards in a matter of minutes, and our 5×7 prints were impressive: bright, clean, edge-to-edge images. The MultiPass prints images up to 4800×1200 color dots per inch. The memory slots are discreetly placed behind a door on the front of the device. Directly under that, you’ll find a USB 2.0 connector for a digital camera. The sleek, silver and black design features a one-button retractable print tray. The MultiPass’ rated print speeds are 18 pages per minute in black and white, and 12 ppm in color. Although we printed at a slightly slower speed, the output was impressive.

The Canon MultiPass MP390 proves that you don’t have to sacrifice quality when you choose an all-in-one solution. The device is compatible with systems running Windows 98 and above. (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/ controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcate goryid=123&modelid=9722; $199.99)
