What does being one of the BEMM 100 Men of Distinction mean to you?
It’s an honor to be chosen and recognized as a BE Modern Man of Distinction. To me, it means that I’m moving in the right direction, and need to continue to raise the bar in my life. My goal is to have a positive impact on others and this helps me do that.
What are some examples of how you turned struggle into success?
One example is how I had a complete meltdown in May 2013; I was ready to quit and walk away from my purpose. However, before I took that step, I decided to pray and seek God for guidance. It was at that time that I was led to write my best-selling book, God Where is my Boaz? which has been a greater success than I ever could’ve imagined.
What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?
Honesty and respect. We may not always agree and see things the same way; however we should always be honest and speak to each other respectfully. When that foundation is in place, we can build a great relationship from there.
What are some immediate projects you are working on?
Currently, I’m working on releasing my next book, How to Get a Man to Cherish You…If You’re His Wife, but after a talk with a friend today, I may change that title. I am also in the process of releasing a book that will speak on finding your purpose and creating your successful business under God’s guidance.
What is the best advice you ever received?
The best advice that comes to mind first, comes from the book Think & Grow Rich: A Black Choice by Dennis Kimbro & Napolean Hill. This book is essentially about investing in yourself and your business. Embracing that lesson took me to new levels, and I will always recommend that book to others.
What is some advice you have for other men who want to make a difference?
My advice would be to focus on your growth as a man. Don’t get caught up with the distractions that will only hinder your progress. Feed your mind, body, and spirit, as this will set you up to be effective in making an impact in people’s lives. Find your purpose, embrace it, and then move forward in it.
How do you prep for an important business meeting and/or event?
To be honest, I tend to freestyle a lot. However, I would tell people do your research before an important business meeting. Learn what you can about who you’re going to be talking to.
As a busy Modern Man, how do you unwind on vacation? Share a story about your best vacation.
I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I can’t think of my best vacation, because I haven’t had one in an extremely long time. Learning to unwind has been one of my struggles, but I am taking a trip to Haiti this summer. Hopefully that will become a great vacation.
If you could travel and stay anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Honestly, I would choose South Africa. I went there for a month in 2014, and I enjoyed the vibe there. I think there is so much potential in Africa in general. It’s a place I connected with, so at this moment that’s the place I would choose.
