Anti-Gay Killing in Greenwich Village Called Hate Crime


Friday night in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NY, a gay man was accosted by a man screaming anti-gay slurs, who stalked him before pulling out a silver revolver and fatally shooting him in the cheek, the NY Times reports.

“This clearly looks to be a hate crime,” Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said at a news conference on Saturday. A suspect, later identified as Elliot Morales, 33, was arrested.

Mark Carson, the victim, was 32 and had recently moved to Brooklyn from Harlem after “scrimping and saving money from his job at a yogurt shop in Midtown,” a friend told the New York Times
